President's Leadership Class

The President's Leadership Class (PLC) is a program for students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in academics and extracurricular endeavors.

In 2001, PLC began as a program to identify leadership potential in incoming students to ÃÛÌÒÓ°ÏñAV. Since then, PLC has produced more than 300 campus leaders and successful professionals.

As of 2024, PLC, is offered to first-year students awarded with the American Indian Scholarship, the Bishop Scholarship, the Clara Luper Scholarship, Deans Scholarship, the ÃÛÌÒÓ°ÏñAV Leads Scholarship, and the Methodist Leadership Scholarship.

Students involved in PLC have the opportunity to meet ÃÛÌÒÓ°ÏñAV's most talented faculty, staff, and administrators, participate in community service projects, and meet distinguished university guest speakers, in addition to:

  • In the fall and spring semesters of their first year, scholarship recipients will enroll in the PLC course which meets once per week, on Tuesdays 1 to 1:50 p.m. This involves planning for and participating in various extracurricular activities.
  • During their first year, scholarship recipients will reside in on-campus housing designated as the PLC Living/Learning Community and benefit from enriching co-curricular activities that complement academic coursework.
  • Once in their sophomore, junior, and senior years, scholarship recipients are asked to attend a continuing education workshop each fall and spring semester and are invited to take part in the service projects each fall and spring semesters alongside the current PLC class.

Criteria

To be considered for the American Indian Scholarship, the Clara Luper Scholarship, and the ÃÛÌÒÓ°ÏñAV Leads Scholarship:

  1. Applicants must be entering freshmen (direct matriculation from high school).*
  2. Applicants must submit the application for admission by Dec. 15, annually.
  3. Applicants must have a High School GPA of at least 3.25 cumulative.
  4. Applicants must have a recommendation from their ÃÛÌÒÓ°ÏñAV Admissions Counselor.

Program Requirements

Member of The President's Leadership Class" (PLC), participate in a one-hour course during the fall and spring semesters of their freshman year (Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m.) This class is a non-credit course and will receive a pass/fail. Through the course curriculum, students will gain insights into their own leadership strengths and group dynamics. The PLC will also engage in:

  • Living/learning community activities.
  • Volunteering for and planning local community service projects.
  • Attending exclusive events at the invitation of the ÃÛÌÒÓ°ÏñAV President and class advisors.
  • Meeting scholars and distinguished guest speakers visiting ÃÛÌÒÓ°ÏñAV.
